In the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, 25 of our 87 faculty (29 percent) are represented by women – a rising trend compared to the national average of 6.5 percent, a statistic recently tabulated by the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Source: AAOS).
March 4, 2020 (SAN FRANCISCO) – The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce a special celebration to honor the women of our Department during UCSF’s annual International Women’s Day, which will be recognized worldwide on Sunday, March 8. This year’s theme is #EachforEqual -- promoting the concept that an equal world is an enabled world.
“We are exceptionally proud of all the women in our Department – faculty, residents and all of our staff. Please take a moment to thank all of the women who are important in your work and your life. On behalf of the Department, a big thank you to all of the women who immeasurably enhance our collective success and make our department one of the best in the nation,” said Thomas P. Vail, MD, Chair of the Department.
“Today more than ever, we as a Department consciously and actively recognize the importance and impact of diversity in our community. Following the lead set by the University, our Department is working actively to promote diversity and equity,” Dr. Vail added.
