How to Use Crutches from UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Pediatric Orthopaedics Department.
Whether you have had an injury, surgery, or otherwise, your healthcare provider has written orders for you to use crutches. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has created this video as a guideline for safe crutch use. The proper use of crutches seems fairly simple, but if used poorly they can lead to issues such as a new injury or worsening of your current condition. Please feel free to watch all or parts of the video over again until you feel comfortable safely using your crutches. If you have questions, ask your nurse or provider.
Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes
The Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes is the first full-service sports medicine program in Northern California to work exclusively with young athletes.
Because growing bones and cartilage are susceptible to injuries unlike those of a skeletally-mature athlete, young athletes must be managed differently from adults. When a young athlete is injured—misuse can lead to disabilities that extend into adulthood.
Our pediatric sports medicine specialists have extensive knowledge and experience in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sports-related injuries in children and adolescents. We offer young athletes the most current and comprehensive medical care and educational programming available.
