UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Releases Annual Research Report

San Francisco, May 28, 2024 – The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is proud to announce the release of its 2023 Research Report, highlighting significant advancements in musculoskeletal health. This comprehensive report underscores the department's commitment to pioneering research that addresses the multifaceted challenges in musculoskeletal care.

The report features notable achievements from 2023, including the inauguration of two state-of-the-art research facilities: Pride Hall at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and the 95 Kirkham/UCSF Orthopaedics motion analysis lab. These new facilities enhance the department’s research infrastructure and foster greater collaboration among scientists.

The department's vibrant research community has produced impactful scholarship, securing substantial NIH funding and contributing numerous papers to the scientific community. Additionally, the report celebrates the international recognition of Tamara Alliston, PhD, and  Ralph Marcuccio, PhD, for their exceptional contributions to musculoskeletal research.

Dr. C. Benjamin Ma, chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, expressed his enthusiasm for the future of musculoskeletal research. "Our focus on translational research aims to bring our basic science discoveries to clinical use, supported by stronger infrastructure and the integration of artificial intelligence to guide patient care," said Dr. Ma.
