SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 30, 2019) – Rosanna Wustrack, MD, an orthopedic surgeon within the UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, has been named Section Chief of the Division of Orthopaedic Oncology.
“Dr. Wustrack has demonstrated exemplary leadership across all aspects of the Department -- clinical care, medical student and resident education, and basic research," said Richard J. O'Donnell, M.D., who served18 years in the Chief role. "I can think of no better transition for the UCSF Orthopaedic Oncology Section.”
Dr. O’Donnell, who serves as the Director of the UCSF Sarcoma Program, will continue to treat patients as well as pursuing clinical and translational research in the area of osseointegration, administrating grants for the Department, and developing programs for the UCSF Musculoskeletal Research Consortium (METRiCS), including its new lab space at 95 Kirkham Street in San Francisco. “Dr. Wustrack’s unwavering commitment to providing expert care to children and adults diagnosed with tumors and tumor-like conditions of the bone and soft tissue – as well as her outstanding mentoring skills and pursuit of research makes her the ideal leader for this program,” said Thomas P. Vail MD, chair of the Department. “We congratulate her on taking this new leadership role.”
“As experts in limb-sparing surgeries and complex limb reconstruction, our orthopaedic oncology team focuses on both removing tumors and rebuilding affected limbs to provide patients with the most functionality possible,” said Dr. Wustrack.
“I greatly look forward to continuing to grow UCSF’s Orthopaedic Oncology program and excited to train the next generation of academic and clinical leaders in our practice,” Dr. Wustrack added.
About Dr. Rosanna Wustrack
Dr. Wustrack joined the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013. She is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the surgical diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors and fragility fractures. Her research focuses on immunotherapy for sarcomas, functional outcomes in cancer patients, osseointegration and optimizing treatment for metastatic disease. She is also interested in global health and osteoporosis in cancer survivors.
Dr. Wustrack received her undergraduate degree from Yale University before earning a medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She completed an internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at UCSF. Subsequently, she completed fellowship training in musculoskeletal oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Additionally, Dr. Wustrack is a member of the UCSF Sarcoma Center, a multidisciplinary team of sarcoma specialists who provide patients with the most precise diagnostic tools, novel surgical and reconstructive techniques, and promising new therapies.
