Annual event at Mariposa Park brings together patients, families, clinicians, and supporters in the fight against sarcoma
SAN FRANCISCO (Aug. 7, 2025) — The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery will host the annual Sarcoma Strong 5K Run + Walk on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Mariposa Park in San Francisco. This community-driven event supports awareness, research, and care for sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the body’s soft tissues and bones.
The 5K invites patients, families, health care professionals, and advocates to unite in solidarity—whether in person at the San Francisco waterfront or virtually from anywhere in the country. Virtual participation will be open from Aug. 9–24, 2025.
“As part of the national Sarcoma Strong movement, we are honored to bring together our UCSF community to support sarcoma patients and the dedicated teams working to improve outcomes,” said Dr. Rosanna Wustrack, associate professor of orthopaedic oncology at UCSF.
Now in its fifth year at UCSF, the Sarcoma Strong 5K reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to increasing public knowledge of this underrecognized disease and advancing treatment through innovation, education, and compassionate care.
All participants will receive a commemorative Sarcoma Strong T-shirt, and teams are welcome to join under the UCSF/UCSF banner.
