About Katie Wallen, MA, ATC

Katie Wallen joined UCSF in 2017 after earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Athletic Training from San José State University. Since starting at UCSF, Katie has served as the head athletic trainer at Galileo High School, where she has developed a robust Sports Medicine Program. She is passionate about her Sports Medicine Club, where she educates and inspires students to pursue careers in healthcare. Additionally, Katie has been a key member of the PlaySafe Cardiac PPE Planning Committee, playing a crucial role in marketing the event to partner schools and increasing engagement within the SFUSD.

At UCSF, Katie has contributed significantly to the expansion of Orthopaedic services and network on the Peninsula through the Redwood Shores Clinic. She also serves as a course co-chair for the UCSF Primary Care Sports Medicine Conference, highlighting her commitment to education. Since 2020, Katie has been a member of the CATA Secondary School Committee, where she collaborates with other athletic trainers to ensure athlete safety and supports legislative efforts to advance athletic training licensure in California.

Before joining UCSF, Katie was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at San Francisco State University, where she worked with women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s wrestling, and women’s track and field.

In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and attending baseball games.
