About Kudret Usmani, MD
Dr. Kudret Usmani, MD, is an assistant clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery at UCSF specializing in orthopaedic trauma and reconstructive arthroplasty. Her expertise includes hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as the treatment of complex fractures, musculoskeletal injuries, and arthritis.
Clinical Care
Dr. Usmani cares for patients with traumatic injuries and degenerative joint conditions, with a focus on restoring mobility, function, and overall quality of life. Her approach to care is informed by an understanding of both the physical and psychological aspects of recovery, and her overarching goal is to improve her patients’ quality of life. In addition to her surgical expertise, she is fluent in Urdu, Hindi, and Spanish, which allows her to serve a diverse patient community and collaborate more effectively with colleagues and community partners.
Research
Dr. Usmani’s research explores how innovative surgical techniques can improve outcomes in trauma and joint reconstruction while addressing health disparities in orthopaedic care. Her studies reflect a strong commitment to equitable and efficient health care for all patients. She has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in orthopaedic trauma and arthroplasty, and her work has been presented nationally at meetings of the Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. She has been recognized with the AONA Kathryn Cramer Career Development Award for her ongoing work on inflammatory biomarkers in upper extremity trauma.
Education
Dr. Usmani earned dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University and received her medical degree from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, where she also completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery. She pursued subspecialty training with fellowships in orthopaedic trauma at Grady Memorial Hospital with Emory University and in reconstructive arthroplasty (surgical joint repair) at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh. She is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and AO North America, among other professional organizations. Passionate about education, she also enjoys teaching and mentoring medical trainees.
