Saam Morshed, MD, PhD, MPH appointed Surgical Director of UCSF Mount Zion Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO (June 28, 2024) -- The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that Dr. Saam Morshed has been appointed Surgical Director of UCSF Mount Zion Hospital.

In partnership with Dr. Christy Inglis-Arkell and Lina Bandera, RN, Dr. Morshed will provide stewardship of the Mt. Zion perioperative environment to improve operational and financial performance, quality and safety, and provider/staff engagement. He will act as a liaison between UCSF Health administration, providers, and staff at Mount Zion to create a culture of transparency, open communication, teamwork, understanding, and mutual respect.

"He will play a pivotal role in our department's efforts to redevelop Mount Zion and will be making critical decisions in OR operations and the care being delivered."

Dr. Morshed is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon-scientist dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal injuries. He received his medical degree from UCSF, completed his fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at the University of Washington, and holds an MPH and PhD in epidemiology from UC Berkeley. He is chief of the University Trauma Service at UCSF, co-director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at UCSF/ZSFGH, and co-director of the Global Research Initiative and director of the Clinical Research Center for the Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology at UCSF.
