Dr. Feeley will join the Vice Chair cabinet to help guide the Department’s daily operations, support and mentor section leaders
SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 26, 2025) — The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that Dr. Brian Feeley has been appointed to a two-year term as Executive Vice Chair.
As Executive Vice Chair, Dr. Feeley will oversee departmental systems and processes, mentor Division Chiefs, and represent the Department in key institutional forums, while also serving as a liaison between Section Chiefs and Vice Chairs to align priorities across the Department. The Executive Vice Chair was chosen by the section chiefs to represent them in the Vice Chair Cabinet.
Dr. Feeley currently serves as Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery and directs the MITO Lab (Muscle Injury and Translational Orthopaedics Laboratory). Since joining UCSF in 2008, he has held multiple leadership positions in the residency and fellowship programs and contributed nationally through research, education, and service on professional committees.

Vice Chair for Health Equity
Improves care and access to all patients. Oversees Director of Community, Culture, and Engagement, Director of IGOT and our global orthopaedic programs.

Vice Chair for Quality & Safety
Improves quality and safety across the Department. Oversees Quality Improvement leaders at each site, works on External Quality Measures (Leapfrog, Vizient, US News), and focuses on patient experiences.

Vice Chair for Research
Leads and directs research efforts in the Department. Oversees the infrastructure of our laboratory and clinical research team. Facilitate collaboration within and outside of the Department.

Oversees the activity of 11 Site Directors at various campus. Coordinates growth and planning on program development across the entire clinical system.
