The UCSF Deparment of Orthopaedic Surgery's Professor Tamara Alliston, PhD, a basic scientist, will be honored at the Orthopaedic Research Society's 2019 annual meeting in February to be held in Austin.

The honor – the ORS Women’s Leadership Forum Award -- recognizes a female biologist, clinician, or engineer who has made significant contributions to the understanding of the musculoskeletal system and musculoskeletal diseases and injuries.

Dr. Alliston's research focuses on the mechanobiologic pathways controlling skeletal cell differentiation in bone and cartilage. Her lab seeks to understand how these pathways maintain the mechanical integrity of the healthy skeleton, and how this is disrupted in skeletal diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis.
