About Lionel Metz, MD

Dr. Lionel Metz, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric and adult spine surgery. Dr. Metz is based at the UCSF Medical Center on the San Francisco Parnassus campus, at the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute on the San Francisco Mission Bay Campus, and at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland.

Dr. Metz's clinical focus is the treatment of spine disorders and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He has extensive experience in complex spinal deformity surgery, scoliosis and kyphosis surgery, revision spine surgery, cervical spine surgery, spinal stenosis, and minimally invasive spine surgical techniques.

Dr. Metz treats both adults and children. He sees patients in San Francisco at the UCSF Spine Center on the Parnassus campus, and at the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute on the Mission Bay Campus, as well as at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

Dr. Metz also serves as Co-Chair of the UCSF Pediatric and Adult Spine Surgery Course, an annual, three-and-a-half day event that emphasizes pioneering trends in pediatric and adult spinal surgery.
