About Igor Immerman, MD

Dr. Igor Immerman is an orthopedic surgeon with specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery, including treatments for the hands, wrists, elbows, and peripheral nerves, including the brachial plexus. Dr. Immerman’s philosophy of care is that each patient should be treated as a unique individual rather than with a cookie-cutter, protocol-only approach. He spends time getting to know each patient, and works collaboratively to choose the best treatment, whether surgical or nonsurgical, for their specific situation.

Dr. Immerman was born in Moscow, Russia, and moved to Maryland in his teens. He graduated with honors with a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and earned his M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases, followed by subspecialty training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Immerman further honed his expertise through fellowships in hand and peripheral nerve surgery at Hadassah Medical Center in Israel, the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, and the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics.

Throughout his career, Dr. Immerman has been active in research, focusing on using large national databases to determine trends and outcomes for various upper-extremity conditions and treatments. He collaborates with radiologists and plastic surgeons on clinical research projects and has over 20 peer-reviewed publications in medical journals.

Dr. Immerman is a fellow of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the Russian American Medical Association and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He serves as a volunteer reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, participates in several committees in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and engages in international medical missions with Health Volunteers Overseas.
