About Yumi Mitsuya, MD
Dr. Yumi Mitsuya, MD is Chief of Pediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. She specializes in caring for children with spina bifida, cerebral palsy, neurotrauma, brain and spinal cord injuries, spasticity management, intrathecal baclofen pump therapy, and other neuromuscular disorders.
Dr. Mitsuya earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, completed a Pediatrics residency at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, and a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Stanford University.
Her research focuses on pediatric rehabilitation and translational medicine, aiming to improve interventions for children with cerebral palsy, neurotrauma, and spinal disorders.
In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Mitsuya is actively involved in educating trainees and colleagues and in community outreach supporting children with complex rehabilitation needs.
