Lauren Shapiro, MD, MS

Dr. Lauren Shapiro grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and attended Stanford University for her undergraduate degree, medical degree, and orthopaedic surgery residency. She completed fellowship training in Hand, Upper Extremity, and Microvascular Surgery at Duke University. Simultaneously she obtained a Master’s Degree in Health Analytics at the Duke Fuqua School of Business. She joined the faculty at UCSF in 2021 with clinical interests in traumatic and elective conditions from the elbow to fingertip. She has participated in longstanding capacity building partnerships in Vietnam, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. She has particular interests in developing sustainable partnerships, building clinical and research capacity, and developing frameworks and tools to evaluate and improve the quality and safety of care for communities in low- and middle-income countries.
