San Francisco – June 12, 2024 -- The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is proud to share that the UCSF Race Medical Team, led by Dr. Anthony LukeMichael Mayes, ATC, and Garrison Chan, ATC, volunteered at last week's big triathlon weekend. This organized group of volunteers from UCSF and the community provided top-notch medical care to ensure the safety and well-being of the athletes.

On Saturday, the UCSF Race Medical Team covered the San Francisco T100 Pro Triathlon Race, a new international series where 40 of the world’s best professional triathletes – women and men – compete over a season of eight exciting 100km races in iconic locations around the globe.

This event was followed by the 43rd Annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, which kicked off Sunday morning in San Francisco. This race featured a field of 2,000 elite triathletes on the world-famous course that includes a swim from Alcatraz to the St. Francis Yacht Club, a bike ride through the Presidio and Golden Gate Park, and a run to Baker Beach, finishing at Marina Green.

“The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is proud of this dedicated team who worked tirelessly to make this event a success,” said Dr. Luke. “Their commitment to the community ensured a safe and enjoyable race experience for everyone involved.”

UCSF has been the official provider of health care for the largest races throughout  the Bay Area.  Learn more about our UCSF Race Medical Team.
