UCSF continues its tradition of excellence with top rankings reflecting outstanding care, innovative research, and educational leadership

SAN FRANCISCO (July 29, 2025) — TheUCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has once again been ranked among the nation’s top orthopaedic programs, earning the No. 6 spot in the U.S. in the 2025–26 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings.

UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center was also named to the national Honor Roll in U.S. News & World Report's 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings for adult care — a distinction earned by only 20 medical centers nationwide and just four in California. It tied as the No. 1 hospital in California amd ranked No. 1 in the San Francisco Metro Area. The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery also ranked Best in Northern California.

U.S. News & World Report evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide each year, measuring clinical outcomes, patient experience and structural factors to determine which institutions provide the highest standard of care for complex medical conditions and procedures. Rankings are based on publicly available data, including outcomes from both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage populations.
