UCSF to Host 2025 Western Region OREF Resident Research Symposium on Sept. 24

The event will showcase orthopaedic residents presenting innovative research across multiple specialties

SAN FRANCISCO — Sept. 23, 2025 – The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery will host the 2025 Western Region OREF Resident Research Symposium, organized by the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. PDT at the Mission Bay Conference Center, Fisher Banquet Room West, 1675 Owens Street in San Francisco. The event brings together orthopaedic residents from across the Western region to present and discuss research that advances musculoskeletal care.

Morning highlights will include registration and breakfast at 7 a.m., a welcome from UCSF Department Chair C. Benjamin Ma, M.D., and opening remarks from OREF CEO Lee Grossman, MBA, ML, CAE.

Sessions I and II will feature resident research presentations in sports medicine and arthroplasty, followed by a break. Subsequent sessions will cover spine, oncology, hand, pediatrics, trauma and other topics, with residents submitting their scores throughout the morning.

The day will conclude with a keynote address by Kevin G. Shea, M.D., of Stanford University, on pediatric knee dissections, followed by Q&A, closing remarks and an awards presentation.
