SAN FRANCISCO (Oct. 19, 2023) -- The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is delighted to announce that the North American Spine Society (NASS) has unveiled the recipient of the prestigious 2023 David Selby Award. This esteemed recognition was conferred today upon Dr. Sigurd Berven, an orthopaedic spine surgeon at the UCSF Spine Center, in honor of his unwavering commitment to advancing the art and science of spinal disorder management through dedicated service to NASS in various roles. Dr. Berven was presented the award this morning in Los Angeles, at the NASS Annual Meeting.

Sigurd H. Berven, a dedicated NASS member since 2002, has served on numerous NASS committees and was a NASS 2022 program co-chair. Berven has a strong interest in the care of children and adults with spinal disorders, including pediatric and adult deformities, degenerative conditions of the spine, spinal tumors, and spinal trauma. In the realm of research, Berven is particularly focused on assessing outcomes for patients who undergo orthopedic surgery.
