Department welcomes Dr. Lawrence Oloff, DPM, FACFAS, Associate Clinical Professor, to join the Division of Foot and Ankle

San Francisco (Oct. 1, 2025) — The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to welcome Dr. Lawrence Oloff, DPM, FACFAS, a distinguished podiatric sports medicine surgeon, to the team. Dr. Oloff brings decades of experience treating athletes at the highest levels, including his current role as team podiatrist for the San Francisco Giants and past affiliations with the San Francisco 49ers, Stanford University Athletics, Santa Clara University Athletics, U.S. Olympic decathalon team and the Golden State Warriors. He is certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, sees patients at UCSF for a wide range of podiatric and sports-related conditions, and is the Program Director of the UCSF St. Mary’s Podiatry Residency Program.

Clinical care

Dr. Oloff specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of sports-related injuries and complex foot and ankle conditions. His expertise includes management of fractures, tendon injuries—including Achilles and posterior tibial tendons—ligament reconstruction, and correction of structural deformities. He frequently treats conditions such as stress fractures, plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies, and foot infections, providing care for both elite athletes and active patients of all ages. In addition to surgical interventions, Dr. Oloff emphasizes individualized rehabilitation and preventative strategies to optimize function, performance, and long-term foot and ankle health.

Academic leadership

Dr. Oloff has served as academic dean at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, clinical associate professor and head of the podiatry section at Stanford University, and professor at Western University of Health Sciences.

Education and training

A native of New York City, Dr. Oloff earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Long Island University, pursued graduate studies in neurophysiology at the University of Cincinnati, and received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University. He completed a two-year residency at Delaware Valley Medical Center in Bristol, Pennsylvania, preparing him for a distinguished career in podiatric and sports medicine.

Dr. Oloff has been recognized nationally for his contributions to podiatry, including being named one of Podiatry Management’s Most Influential Podiatrists and receiving the Distinguished Practitioner award from the National Academies of Practice. He has also participated in international medical missions in Namibia.

Dr. Oloff will see patients at the UCSF Redwood Shores Specialty Clinic on the Peninsula and the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute in San Francisco.
