Dr. Cohn will lead rehabilitation services at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and Laguna Honda Hospital
San Francisco (Aug. 4, 2025) — The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes Dr. Jennifer Amica Cohn to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team. Dr. Cohn joins as an Assistant Clinical Professor and will serve as Chief of Rehabilitation Services at both Zuckerberg San Francisco General and Laguna Honda Hospital.
About Jennifer Amica Cohn, MD
Clinical Care
Dr. Cohn is a board-certified physiatrist with specialized expertise in brain injury rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, and cancer rehabilitation. She brings a decade of experience leading multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation teams across diverse clinical settings. At Laguna Honda Hospital, she has served as a senior physician specialist, where she implemented patient-centered programs such as hospital-wide walking rounds for patients with Huntington's disease, a traumatic brain injury work group, and a successful restraint reduction initiative. Her previous roles include consulting physician for neurosurgical ICU patients at Eden Medical Center, and attending physician at the Centre for Neuro Skills, where she guided return-to-work rehabilitation for individuals with acquired brain injuries. She also played a pivotal role in launching the cancer rehabilitation program at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and led efforts to achieve CARF accreditation.
Research Interests
Dr. Cohn’s research centers on functional outcomes after spinal cord injury and inpatient rehabilitation for patients with brain injury. She has presented nationally on caregiver preparedness and traumatic brain injury care models. Her early work on blood pressure management in acute spinal cord injury earned recognition from the American Spinal Injury Association. She remains committed to integrating evidence-based strategies into rehabilitation care and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across care teams. Additionally, she has led health survey initiatives abroad, assessing childhood morbidity and mortality in rural Uganda as part of a global health fellowship.
Education
Dr. Cohn earned her medical degree with distinction in research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was awarded fellowships in global health and spinal cord injury research. She completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University, serving as Academic Chief and later Program Chief. She is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and holds subspecialty certification in Brain Injury Medicine. Dr. Cohn received her undergraduate degree in biology with an emphasis in neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, graduating cum laude with Provost Honors.
Dr. Cohn sees patients at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and Laguna Honda Hospital.She sees inpatients, consults and has an outpatient physiatry practice where she also does EMG’s, Botox injections, and general rehabilitation.
