SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 2, 2022) -- The UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that C. Benjamin Ma MD, a Professor in Residence in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery and Vice Chair of Adult Clinical Operations, has been appointed to the V-Nee Yeh Endowed Professorship.
As holder of the V-Nee Yeh Endowed Professorship, Dr. Ma will support orthopaedic research,service activities, and teaching related to the department’s vision to pioneering musculoskeletal discovery and innovative care to transform lives.

About V-Nee Yeh
International businessman V-Nee Yeh works in senior roles at a wide range of finance companies. He is the co-founder and honorary chairman of Value Partners, Asia’s second largest fund management group; the co-founder and chairman of distressed and special opportunities fund Argyle Street Management; chairman of Cheetah Investment Management, which incubates other funds; and a founding shareholder and non-executive chairman of Dubai-based alternative investments group Samena Capital.
A former member of Hong Kong’s Executive Council, Mr. Yeh has also been a member of the listing committees of both the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the China Securities Regulatory Commission. Originally working in law and then asset management in the US, he returned to Hong Kong to take charge of the restructuring of his family’s company Hsin Chong. He later became chairman of the construction group, originally established by his grandfather Godfrey Yeh.
Mr. Yeh is a graduate of Williams College and holds a Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law at Columbia University. He is a member of the California Bar Association and was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar during his time at Columbia University.
About Dr. C. Benjamin Ma, MD
Dr. C. Benjamin Ma is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic shoulder surgery to repair rotator cuff tears and ligament instability, shoulder replacements, knee ligament reconstruction, and procedures to address meniscus and other cartilage injuries. From 2007 through 2019, he was the Chief of Sports Medicine and Shoulder service at UCSF, where he assembled an outstanding group of clinicians, scientists and athletic trainers. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of Adult Clinical Operations at the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Ma is involved in research on cartilage imaging and dynamic MRI scans of knees with injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). His work has focused on early detection of cartilage injuries following ACL reconstruction surgery and improving ACL reconstruction outcomes. He has published extensively on the improvement of outcomes following rotator cuff surgeries and replacements.
Ma earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal research. He subsequently completed a fellowship in shoulder and knee surgery and sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Ma has received many awards for his patient care, teaching and research, including the UCSF Health Exceptional Physician Award; UCSF Excellence in Teaching Award; O'Donoghue Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine; Patellofemoral Research Excellence Award from the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine; and the New Investigator Recognition Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society. He is a member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, and has been awarded the Charles Neer Award on Shoulder Research three times. His peers have elected him on the Top Doctors list in San Francisco and Marin counties for the past 15 years.
