UCSF appoints Jason Jagodzinski, MD, Informatics Lead for Pediatric Surgical Services

OAKLAND, CALIF.  (Jan. 27, 2020) -- The UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that Jason Jagodzinski, MD, pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, has accepted the position of Informatics Lead for Pediatric Surgical Services for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.

“This strategic appointment represents UCSF’s commitment to continuously enhancing leadership talent, which we believe is very important for our long-term growth,” said Dr. Thomas P. Vail, MD, chair of the Department.

In his new role, Dr. Jagodzinski is an integral part of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital’s Apex Bridge to One Bay (Epic/Apex merge), the integrated Electronic Health Record that allows UCSF clinicians to easily access a patient's relevant data from the UCSF Electronic Health Record (APeX) on both sides of the bay.

“In joining UCSF’s pediatric informatics team, my goal is to be the pediatric surgeon voice to continue advocating for improvements in how technology interfaces with  clinical care,” said Dr. Jagodzinski, who has served as the Epic Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Pediatric Orthopaedic Division at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland since joining the Department in 2015.

"Dr. Jagodzinski is poised to take this role in the emerging field of health informatics. We congratulate him on taking this challenge," said Dr. Mohammad Diab, MD, Vice Chair of Pediatric Clinical Operations within the Department.

As Informatics Lead for Pediatric Surgical Services, his primary focus will be optimizing surgeon and patient workflow within the Electronic Health Record, exploring and implementing technological solutions for patient care, and ensuring operational excellence with the highest level of quality assurance.

“Dr. Jagodzinski has played an integral role in optimizing informatics for our group, and this new role will allow him to benefit our Department and the health system at large,” said Dr. Nirav Pandya, MD, Section Chief of the Department’s Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics.

About Dr. Jagodzinski

Dr. Jagodzinski is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in pediatric orthopaedic trauma, osteogenesis imperfecta, sports medicine, arthroscopy, limb deformities and the care of neuromuscular conditions, as well as general pediatric orthopaedics. 

Dr. Jagodzinski received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. 

Dr. Jagodzinski completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Loyola University Hospitals in Maywood, IL, and then completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta - Scottish Rite Hospital with Children's Orthopaedics of Atlanta. Dr. Jagodzinski subsequently joined the faculty at the UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, for which he is currently an assistant professor of pediatric orthopedic surgery, providing clinical services primarily at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
