About Mark Chu Xu, MD

Dr Mark Xu is an orthopedic surgeon with dual subspecialty training in orthopedic trauma and spine surgery. His clinical interests include managing traumatic injuries of the extremities and pelvis, as well as treating degenerative and traumatic spinal pathology. He takes a comprehensive approach to assessing and understanding each patient and emphasizes shared decision making for treatment, both nonsurgical and surgical. 

He completed his medical school and orthopedic surgery residency in his hometown in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He then pursued an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of British Columbia - Vancouver General Hospital, followed by a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto - Toronto Western Hospital. 

Dr Xu’s research focuses on clinical outcomes and biomechanical studies comparing surgical fixation techniques. He has received numerous grants for his studies including an AO Trauma North America Fellow Research Grant.

He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and board eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Additionally, he has successfully completed the AO Spine Global Spine Diploma Examination.

Dr Xu sees patients at the Regional Medical Center in San Jose and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
