Training Facilities

UCSF Medical Center at Parnassus

This location is the center of UCSF Health. The majority of administrative services are here, as are weekly conferences on Wednesday mornings. This is the primary inpatient surgical site at UCSF. Spine and arthroplasty cases are performed here, as are larger hand, foot & ankle, and sports medicine cases. 

 

Orthopaedic Institute at Mission Bay

Located on the UCSF Mission Bay Campus in San Francisco, the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute is our ortho-only outpatient surgery center. The OI is high volume and efficient. The OI also houses the majority of our out-patient clinics, including arthroplasty, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, and sports medicine. 

 

 Zuckerberg San Francisco General

As the only Level I trauma center in San Francisco, Zuckerberg San Francisco General is the core of the orthopaedic trauma experience at UCSF. We have a large resident service here, as well as a very busy in-patient service. The affiliated UCSF Orthopaedic Trauma Institute (OTI) houses our morning conferences and anatomy labs.

SF VA Medical Center

The San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center provides primary medical care, comprehensive homeless center, psychosocial and health care services. It has been affiliated with UCSF for more 50 years. Located in the far northwest corner of San Francisco, the VA is a hidden gem. The VA orthopaedic service has a high volume of “bread and butter” orthopaedic surgery.

Mission Bay Adult and Benioff Children’s Hospital

Across the street from the Orthopaedic Institute, the Mission Bay hospital houses our pediatric and oncology services.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland

The Benioff Children’s Hospital-Oakland is located across the Bay Bridge in Oakland and serves a diverse patient population with all types of pediatric problems.  BCHO is where most of our bread-and-butter pediatric trauma experience happens. 

Shriners Hospitals for Children

The Shriners Hospital for Children is located in Sacramento, California, and provides one of the most valuable experiences of our pediatric training.  Patients and their families come from all around North America to receive free care at this state-of-the-art facility.  During this rotation, our trainees have the opportunity to work with residents from other orthopaedic residency programs including UC Davis, UCSF-Fresno, and St. Mary’s.

California Pacific Medical Center

The California Pacific Medical Center is located in the heart of San Francisco and provides residents with an opportunity to work with outstanding community orthopaedic surgeons in the private practice setting.  Residents have flexibility to select the types of cases of greatest interest to them and attend clinic in the surgeons’ private offices as well.
