OREF Western Region Resident Research Symposium
The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Western Region Resident Research Symposium will take place on September 24, 2025, at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF, and is proudly hosted by the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
For more than 20 years, OREF has remained dedicated to fostering the next generation of clinician-scientists through research-focused educational initiatives like the Resident Research Symposia. These events provide orthopaedic surgery residents with a valuable opportunity to present their original research, refine their presentation skills, and engage in scholarly dialogue with peers and mentors.
A panel of expert judges will score each presentation, and top-performing residents will receive cash awards in recognition of their outstanding work. The top three presenters from each region will go on to compete in the OREF National Resident Research Symposium, to be held virtually later this year.
This annual event not only highlights the innovative research emerging from residency programs across the region but also reinforces OREF’s mission to support excellence in orthopaedic research and education nationwide.
This year's symposium is chaired by Dr. Ishaan Swarup, MD and Dr. Lauren Shapiro, esteemed faculty members in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Under their leadership, the event will showcase innovative resident-led research from across the Western region.
