
UCSF’s Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery joins the Board of Directors of POSNA, a leading organization advancing care for children with musculoskeletal conditions.
SAN FRANCISCO, March 24, 2026 — Dr. Ishaan Swarup, Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), representing more than 1,700 members dedicated to advancing pediatric musculoskeletal care.
“Joining the POSNA Board gives me the opportunity to shape the future of pediatric orthopaedic care nationally—driving research, education, and clinical standards that improve outcomes for children everywhere,” Dr. Swarup said. “POSNA’s mission also aligns with UCSF’s commitment to equitable access and optimal musculoskeletal health for all children.”
A fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Swarup treats infants, children, and young adults with conditions ranging from pediatric hip disorders and scoliosis to spinal conditions and trauma. He also conducts research to improve outcomes in pediatric trauma, hip preservation, and spine surgery. Dr. Swarup’s research focuses on improving outcomes in pediatric orthopaedic surgery, with an emphasis on hip preservation, spinal deformities, trauma, and patient-centered approaches that optimize safety, recovery, and long-term musculoskeletal health.
“Dr. Swarup’s leadership, expertise, and dedication to pediatric orthopaedics make him an outstanding representative for UCSF and the national pediatric orthopaedic community,” said Dr. C. At UCSF, Dr. Swarup serves as Associate Director of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship and participates in multiple professional committees, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Scoliosis Research Society. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery congratulates Dr. Swarup on this national leadership role and looks forward to the impact he will have in advancing pediatric orthopaedic care.
