As a scholar, she will participate in a yearlong learning collaborative program with national experts aimed at improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing preventable harm.

“I’m honored to be named a NAM scholar in diagnostic excellence,” Dr. Shapiro said. “This opportunity would not be possible without the incredible support of UCSF and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The protected time and mentorship I’ve received here have been essential in helping me grow as a clinician, researcher and leader.”

“Dr. Shapiro is an outstanding physician-investigator whose research is transforming how we diagnose and care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions,” said Dr. C. Benjamin Ma, chair of the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. “Her selection by the NAM is a testament to her commitment to advancing evidence-based, high-impact care, and we are proud to support her work.”
