San Francisco, April 23, 2026 — The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery announced that Dr. Anthony Wiggins will lead its Grand Rounds program, as the department also recognized Dr. Drew Lansdown for his years of leadership in the role.

The transition marks a continued emphasis on education, clinical exchange, and multidisciplinary learning within one of the department’s central academic forums.

“Dr. Lansdown has led Grand Rounds with a rare combination of intellectual rigor and quiet dependability,” said Dr. C. Benjamin Ma, Chair of the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. “What he built was not only a schedule of talks, but a living academic forum—one that consistently showed up at a high level, week after week, year after year. That kind of sustained excellence does not happen by accident. It reflects deep care for education, for colleagues, and for the culture of a department. We are profoundly grateful for his leadership and for the standard he has set for what a Grand Rounds program can be.”

Dr. Wiggins brings expertise in adult reconstruction and joint replacement, along with a focus on patient-centered care and medical education. Dr. Lansdown, a sports medicine surgeon, has led the program since 2019 through a period of expanded participation and broadening subspecialty representation.

Grand Rounds is held on a weekly basis at UCSF Mission Bay Byers Hall in a hybrid format, convening faculty, learners, visiting professors, and nationally recognized experts for presentations and scholarly discussion.

The 2026–2027 schedule will be released later this summer.
