SAN FRANCISCO (June 26, 2020) – After years of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to the mission of advancing health worldwide, the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery proudly celebrates the graduating chief residents of the Class of 2020.

“We all want to say thank you,” said Dr. Hubert Kim, MD, PhD, Vice-Chair for Education and Residency Program Director. “We are very appreciative for the great care of our patients, for your commitment to education, and your commitment to making our program the best I think in the country. We look forward to watching your careers unfold.”

“You will soon be set forth to participate in a remarkable profession, “said Dr. Thomas P. Vail, Chair of the Department. “Orthopaedic surgery touches the young, the old, the disadvantaged, and the entitled. It is local, it is global. Bones are healed, walking is restored, and pain is eliminated. I wish you all the very best as you move to your future.”

The members of the Class of 2020 include:

  • Ilya  Bendich, MD, who will embark on a adult reconstruction and joint replacement fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City
  • Erik Geiger, MD, who will pursue a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
  • Trevor Grace, MD, who will continue his training at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, where he will pursue a fellowship in hip and knee reconstruction
  • Kevin  Hwang, MD, who will embark on an orthopaedic spine surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital / Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston
  • Justin Krogue, MD, who will be pursuing a career in technology-driven patient care at Google in Mountain View, Calif.
  • Jeffrey  Mulvihill, MD, who will embark on a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the University of Colorado, Denver
  • Caitlin Rugg, MD, who will be pursuing a fellowship in sports medicine at Duke University
