Drew Lansdown MD, Paul Toogood MD named Co-Associate Program Directors of Orthopedics Residency Program

SAN FRANCISCO (Nov. 18, 2022) – The UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that Dr. Drew Lansdown and Dr. Paul Toogood will serve as Co-Associate Program Directors of the Department’s Residency Program

“The Department has always been dedicated to preparing orthopaedic residents to making a difference – both locally and globally. As former residents themselves, Dr. Lansdown and Dr. Toogood understand the challenges and rigors of our program from the inside and out. They are fantastic mentors and deeply committed to resident education, and will be ideal in their new roles,” said Dr. Hubert Kim MD, PhD, Residency Program Director and Vice-Chair for Education.

Dr. Lansdown and Dr. Toogood succeed Dr. Brian Feeley and Dr. Nicole Schroeder, who have served in this capacity for the past 10 years. Dr. Schroeder and Dr. Feeley will continue to play an integral role in education as Associate Vice Chairs for Education.

About Drew Lansdown, MD

Dr. Drew Lansdown is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and surgeries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. He treats a wide range of conditions, including knee ligament injuries, meniscus and other cartilage injuries, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, shoulder arthritis, and shoulder and elbow injuries related to throwing. He cares for athletes of all ages and skill levels.

His research interests include anterior cruciate ligament injuries, rotator cuff tears and cartilage injuries. He studies how to use advanced MRI techniques to improve diagnosis and treatment for knee and shoulder conditions.

Dr. Lansdown earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, graduating with honors. While completing a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, he received the UCSF Exceptional Physician Award. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Rush University Medical Center.

About Paul Toogood MD, MS

Dr. Paul Toogood is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in traumatic injuries and hip and knee replacement. He primarily treats adults but occasionally provides care for children.

In research, Dr. Toogood studies the care of patients with traumatic injuries or arthritis. He focuses particularly on vulnerable patients, such as those with a substance use disorder.

Dr. Toogood earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he also completed a master's degree in medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at Harborview Medical Center (an affiliate of the University of Washington) and a fellowship in hip and knee replacement at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
