The Morgan and Madison McClellan International Research Fellowship
The Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Global Research Initiative offers the Morgan and Madison McClellan International Research Fellowship. The 10-month to 1-year opportunity is for third and fourth-year medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery and global health. The specialist research position is designed to build upon fundamental skills and hands-on research experience critical to implementing orthopaedic research projects globally. This endowed fellowship was started by a generous gift from Dr. Trigg McClellan of the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute in honor of his daughters, Morgan and Madison McClellan. A $37,000 stipend will be provided for living expenses including UCSF benefits.

Dr. Chris McConnachie Endowment Fund
The McConnachie Endowment Fund was named after Dr. Chris McConnachie in 2008 to offer Orthopaedic Surgery residents at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) a 1-month rotation at the Bedford Orthopaedic Center in South Africa. This opportunity was created in hope that early exposure will encourage future volunteerism throughout the residents’ professional lives. Every year, the UCSF Orthopaedic Surgery junior resident class elects a resident among the PG-Y 4 class to receive this opportunity. The selection is made based on who best embodies Dr. McConnachie’s legacy to “do what you can to serve the most patients, the best way you are able.”

Dr. Floyd H. Jergesen Endowment Fund
This endowed fund was created in honor of Floyd H. Jergesen, M.D., long-term member of the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and former Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the San Francisco Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. A consummate clinician and teacher, Dr. Jergesen, who died in 1990, dedicated a large part of his career to fostering international cooperation in the field of orthopaedic surgery. He served as the first American president of SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et deTraumatologie) and was instrumental in fostering collegial relationships between the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and orthopaedic educators from abroad. Income from this endowment is used to support UCSF orthopaedic residents who are involved in international orthopaedic work.
