Our work
- Dr. Paul Whiting, an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at the University of Wisconsin, has developed educational collaborations with several hospitals in East Africa. In addition, Dr. Whiting partners with several organizations whose purpose is to advance orthopaedic education and training in the developing world.
Our projects
Clinical Education and Training in Kenya
- Dr. Whiting travels to Kenya each year where he spends time at two mission hospitals - Tenwek Hospital and Kijabe Hospital. These trips are focused on training local residents and faculty in advanced orthopaedic trauma techniques and contributing to resident education through lectures, case discussions, and journal clubs.
PAACS Orthopaedic Residency Curriculum Development
- Dr. Whiting is the Curriculum Chair for the Orthopaedic Council of the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS). In this role, Dr. Whiting has been developing a unified curriculum for the two current PAACS Orthopaedic Residency Programs (both in Kenya). Recently, a third PAACS Orthopaedic Residency Program has begun in Ethiopia. This combined program includes training at both Soddo Christian Hospital and CURE Ethiopia.
SIGN Pelvic and Acetabular Fracture Education and Training
- Dr. Whiting participates in training international surgeons on techniques and management of pelvic and acetabular fractures in conjunction with SIGN Fracture Care International. He has taught at SIGN conferences in the United Stated and in Africa, using didactic lectures, case presentations, surgical videos, and hands-on cadaveric dissection labs to illustrate concepts and techniques.
