Our projects
Foundations of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS)
- FOCOS was founded by the Chief Emeritus of the Scoliosis Service, Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, MD. The Foundation provides orthopedic care to underserved populations in West Africa and other developing nations. Swanson Fellowship Program was established in honor of Andrew N. Swanson, MD, for an HSS resident or fellow to travel to Ghana and complete a two-week fellowship with the Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) Clinic. The mission of FOCOS is to improve the quality of life of patients in need throughout Africa and other parts of the world by providing optimum orthopaedic care.
Advancing Anesthesia Care in Developing Nations
- Under the direction of Swetha Pakela, MD, HSS provides regional anesthesia training to medical providers in nations such as Ghana, India and Uganda to improve the standard of anesthetic care in a long-lasting way.
