Our mission

Faith In Practice is committed to serving the poor of Guatemala through short-term medical mission trips that take an integrated approach to care that strives to reach those in the greatest need. Each year, more than 1,300 medical professionals and support personnel from across the United States and world travel to Guatemala, paying their own direct expenses to serve the poor through Faith In Practice. Each year, nearly 1,000 Guatemalan volunteers work beside our volunteers in this endeavor. Faith In Practice teams see more than 25,000 patients annually. Our volunteers serve through a variety of teams that are connected, providing a continuity of care in the context of short-term medical mission.

Our work

• Partnering with Faith in Practice, we seek to expand trauma care in Guatemala. While the entire Faith in Practice organization is extensive (it is the 3rd largest healthcare provider in the country of Guatemala) our trauma exposure has been limited to only a couple of weeks per year. This has limited our case load to primarily long bone nonunions. We are seeking to expand in multiple directions: 1) regularly occuring trauma surgical coverage in Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala; 2) the establishment of partnership with local surgeons to focus on education and resource management; 3) outreach to national schools of medicine for creation of research infrastructure.

Surgical Mission Trips

• We have no current ongoing research projects. We are limited to only surgical trips at this point. We are seeking more, regular trauma surgeon interest and participation. If you are a resident or faculty member interested in participating, please contact us.
