About Kathryn Sigford, MD

Dr. Kathryn E. Sigford, MD is a board certified physician, who specializes in Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Sigford provides treatment for conditions that include cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, neurotrauma, torticollis, spasticity, gait impairment, and orthotics and equipment prescriptions for pediatric patients of all ages.

Originally from the St. Paul, Minnesota, Dr. Sigford received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. They then earned their medical degree from University of California Davis School of Medicine. They then completed and internship in internal medicine at University of Colorado Denver, followed by their residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University. Dr. Sigford then completed fellowship training in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine: University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Following their fellowship, Dr. Sigford spent the last five years as an associate clinical professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where they also served as Division Chief of Rehabilitation Services.

During their appointment at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, they saw patients at LifeScape Hospital and School, a residential facility for children with medical needs that cannot be met in the community, especially in the rural and underserved areas of the state. They also served on the university’s admission committee to recruit applicants who had rural backgrounds and would be likely to return to rural settings as primary care providers. They also served on the residency program’s diversity committee to formalize an LGBT group to provide education on gender-neutral language and avoiding gender stereotyping.

When not in clinic, Dr. Sigford enjoys reading, board games and training for triathlons.

At UCSF, Dr. Sigford will be primarily based at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
