About Joelle Gabet, MD
Dr. Joelle Gabet, MD, is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist who cares for patients with neck and back pain. She specializes in improving function and decreasing pain in patients with spinal disorders. Her clinical interests also include neuromuscular medicine, neurorehab, spasticity, and amputee medicine. She will also be a member of the Department’s osseointegration program. She will be seeing patients at the Orthopedic Institute and at the San Mateo Primary and Specialty Care Clinic.
To detect injuries, Dr. Gabet performs electromyography (EMG)/nerve conduction studies, which measures how muscles respond to nerve signals and how electrical impulses travel through nerves.
Dr. Gabet has a wide research background; her research focuses include: walking studies for patients with peripheral vascular disease; administrative coding research for primary rehabilitation diagnoses and common medical co-morbidities to reduce physician queries; and research on osteoporosis in adults with cerebral palsy. In addition, she has a keen interest in performing research on patients with SCI secondary to metastatic cancer to evaluate rehabilitation outcomes.
Dr. Gabet received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, and later earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center, where she then completed a fellowship in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In July, 2021 she will start a fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine in the Neurology Department at UCSF.Dr. Gabet grew up in Randolph, N.J. She enjoys her weekends engaging in running, soccer and painting.
