Drew Lansdown, MD, receives 2019 American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s Young Investigator Award

San Francisco (August, 1, 2019) -- The UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery is pleased to announce that Dr. Drew Lansdown, MD, is the recipient of the prestigious American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s 2019 Young Investigator Award.

The award, in the amount of a $50,000 grant to be used to finance Dr. Lansdown’s research, will support his project:   The relationship between ACL grant quantitative imaging characteristics and subjective and functional outcomes after ACL reconstruction.

“I’ve always been interested in researching how advanced magnetic resonance imaging can improve how we can best diagnose and treat conditions of the knee,” Dr. Lansdown said.  “I’m very grateful to the AOSSM for supporting my curiosity and commitment to this research.”

About Dr. Lansdown

Dr. Drew Lansdown is an orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in sports medicine and surgery of the knee, shoulder, and elbow. Experienced in the treatment of cartilage injuries and knee joint preservation, he treats a wide-range of conditions, which include knee ligament injuries, meniscal injuries, cartilage injuries, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, and throwing-related injuries.

Dr. Lansdown received his bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, and his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed medical residency training at UCSF, and later fellowship training in sports medicine, shoulder surgery, and articular cartilage restoration at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Following fellowship, Dr. Lansdown returned to UCSF, for which he serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery in the Division of Sports Medicine.
