Information for Visiting Students

FEES:  The fees for a 4 week rotation is $200.00.  All fees are non-refundable.  Once you are confirmed for a rotation, the Department will send you an e-mail with payment instructions.

ORIENTATION:  There will be orientation for all visiting students with their chief resident on the first day of the rotation at 8:00 am.

UCSF ID BADGE AND PHOTO ID:  You must bring your Drivers License or other forms of identification with you.  The police department requires 2 forms of identification.  UCSF ID’s will be issued to you on the first day of your rotation.

MALPRACTICE INSURANCE:  You must show proof that you are covered for Malpractice Insurance by your home school.  The information must be made available in VSAS.

LAB COATS:  You are required to bring your own white coat since one must be worn at all times during patient contact.  We do not provide coats.

PAGERS:  The department does not issue pagers to visiting medical students.

TRANSPORTATION TO PARNASSUS CAMPUS:  The campus is located in the 500 block of Parnassus Avenue.  There is a short-term parking garage at 500 Parnassus Avenue, charging a rate of $3.75/hour.  The campus is serviced by the N-Judah Light Rail Service, the #6, #43 and #66 bus lines and UCSF shuttle service to and from Mt. Zion Hospital, San Francisco VA Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital.

PARKING:  UCSF and affiliate hospitals do not provide parking for visiting medical students.  Shuttles run regularly between UCSF, Mission Bay, SFGH and Mt. Zion Hospital.
